January 2025 ITS Scheduled Maintenance Work

Upcoming Maintenance


Information Technology Services staff will be performing maintenance in January. The following items are currently scheduled.

Friday, January 3, 6–7 a.m. 
Core switch configuration to better protect the network from widespread issues. There is no expected downtime during this operation.

 

Sunday, January 5, 12, midnight–7 a.m. 
Wireless network firmware update. There will be rolling wireless coverage downtime as the system upgrades the wireless access point (WAP) hardware across campus.

 

Monday, January 6, 5–7 a.m.
Patching to the network access control (NAC) system (ClearPass). New network connections will not work, existing network connections should remain active.

 

Monday, January 6, 9 a.m.–noon 
Upgrades to the phone reporting server.

 

Monday, January 6, noon–6 p.m. 
OnBase upgrade.

 

Starting Monday, January 6, and going through the 17th,
Wireless access point (WAP) hardware upgrades in Lawrence, Lathrop, and McGregory. There will be brief periods of reduced network coverage in these areas. 

 

Tuesday, January 7, 2–7 a.m., 
Adding additional network-based security to the student networks. There will be brief network interruptions while this work is ongoing.

 

Tuesday, January 7, 7 –8 a.m. 
Performing testing on a portion of our phone infrastructure. There is no expected downtime during this operation.

 

Tuesday, January 7, 8–9 a.m., 
Installing patches on the PaperCut system; this will impact print release stations, other printing activities should not be impacted.

 

Thursday, January 9, 7 a.m. 
Enabling a feature in the NAC system, Clearpass, to perform regular maintenance on its database. There is no impact on network connectivity as a result of this work.

 

Friday, January 10, 9  a.m.–noon 
Replacing power distribution units in one of the University’s data centers. There is no expected impact on any servers or services during this operation.

 

Monday, January 13, 6–7 a.m. 
Classroom switch firmware update. There will be about 10 minutes of downtime as the switch reboots.

 

Tuesday, January 14, 6–7 a.m. 
Data center copper switches firmware update. There will be about 10 minutes of downtime as the switch reboots.

 

Wednesday, January 15, 6–7 a.m. 
Data center fiber switches firmware update. There is no downtime expected with this operation.

 

Thursday, January 16, 6–7 a.m. 
Core network switch firmware update. There is no downtime expected with this operation.

 

Friday, January 17, 6 –7 a.m. 
Network switch firmware make-up day.  If any switches have not been updated during the previous windows, they will be updated during this window.

 

Friday, January 17, 7 a.m.
Adding IPv6 between our Internet router and the campus firewall.  There is no downtime expected during this operation.
