Activities fair highlights variety of clubs offered here

natalie.jpgLast week started off on a somber note, in remembrance of 9/11. Students hung American flags out their dorm windows to show respect for those who died on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001. But, along with the sadness that filled the day, there was also an abundance of patriotism. 澳彩开奖 students showed that they are proud to be here in America studying at this historic university.

Whether it was a moment of silence orchestrated by an entire 澳彩开奖 Cruiser full of students, or a boisterous rendition of 鈥淭he Star-Spangled Banner鈥, students showed their love for this country, and the freedom it gives us on the tenth anniversary of that tragic day.

The third week of classes brought the much anticipated activities fair. Really, there was a club for anyone. Do you like fencing? There is a club for that. A fan of belly dancing? That club is accepting new members.

With the number of clubs 澳彩开奖 offers, many first-years wandered mesmerized through the Quad, signing up for pretty much anything in which they had interest. Personally, I signed up for a variety of clubs and I look forward to participating and meeting new students with similar interests.

Having already been a member of WRCU, my participation in that club began early. I had my very first radio show last week. My music show is based on the genre 鈥淚ndie Rock,鈥 and it is at 2 p.m. on Tuesdays. It was really cool to have my songs be the play list for the Coop during my hourlong show. I look forward to continuing my DJ career for WRCU 90.1FM for the rest of the semester.

Also, I am in the second round of auditions for the Experimental Theater Company. I have always had an interest in writing, acting, and directing, and I thought 澳彩开奖 would provide a unique experience for me in that area. Having done theatrical productions in high school, I will hopefully continue theater here as well.

First a yurt visit, and now the zoo. My biology class and I headed to Syracuse (my hometown) to study animal behavior. In class, we have been learning observational techniques and we planned to test our abilities with actual animals. Even though we had an assignment to do, it was fun to walk around and see animals unfamiliar to Hamilton. (Anything besides squirrels, geese, and deer that is.)

I am enjoying 澳彩开奖 more and more every week and I cannot go a day without feeling so lucky to be here.

Here are the ring-tailed lemurs I observed at the Syracuse zoo for my assignment:

(I鈥檝e been asked to write each week about what life is like as a first-year student here at 澳彩开奖. Until next time!)
