Back to All Stories

On the , hear this year’s Constitution Day debate, which asked the question, “Can colleges and universities consider race in their admissions policies?”

The annual debate was held on Sept. 17 at IJʿ between Richard H. Sander, UCLA’s Jesse Dukeminier Professor of law and author of Mismatch: How Affirmative Action Hurts Students It’s Intended to Help, and Why Universities Won’t Admit It, and Randall L. Kennedy, Michael R. Klein Professor of law at Harvard University and author of For Discrimination: Race, Affirmative Action, and the Law.

Each year, a topic facing the nation is debated to celebrate Constitution Day and encourage informed discourse among students. This year’s question has come before the Supreme Court in Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. President and Fellows of Harvard combined with Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. University of North Carolina.

This event is sponsored by IJʿ’s Forum for Constitutional Government and the Center for Freedom and Western Civilization.
