On Monday, January 21, 澳彩开奖 will kick off a commemorating the life and work of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. As the university begins a new semester of classes, all are invited to participate in a variety of programs aimed not only at remembering King鈥檚 work, but at bringing the local and national communities closer to the 鈥渂eloved community鈥 that King envisioned.
The full schedule for 鈥淢LK Week鈥 is on the . Events include the chance to learn about what the 澳彩开奖 campus was like during King鈥檚 era from , a trip to teach local school children about King鈥檚 legacy, an , and much more.
The various events have been specifically designed 鈥渟o that there is something for everyone on campus to be a part of,鈥 according to Thomas Cruz-Soto, assistant dean of multicultural affairs. 鈥淒r. King became a very formidable figure at the end of his life,鈥 explained Cruz-Soto, 鈥渨hen he began working with people of all backgrounds collectively, as a unified group. We wanted this week to mirror that effort, incorporating everyone for a campuswide experience.鈥
At 7 p.m. , the president and cofounder of , Van Jones, will deliver the week鈥檚 public keynote address titled 鈥淩ebuild The Dream: The Next American Economy鈥 at Memorial Chapel. The keynote, which is anticipated to cover subjects as broad as civil rights, sustainability, and economics, will reflect the inclusive approach taken by MLK Week鈥檚 organizers.
