Expert Advising

Students interested in medical school, dental school, or veterinary school begin working with °Ä²Ê¿ª½±â€™s Health Science Advising Committee in their first year. The committee is composed of faculty from a variety of disciplines and:

  • Provides information about professional school requirements.
  • Counsels students on selection of undergraduate courses and work experiences.
  • Writes recommendation letters for °Ä²Ê¿ª½± students and alumni.

°Ä²Ê¿ª½± has early assurance programs with medical schools at:

Beyond the Classroom

In addition to top-tier academics, get experience in real-world health and medical settings with some of these opportunities:

More than 25 area healthy care providers participate in this program which allows students to shadow professionals in family practice, radiology, ophthalmology, emergency medicine, osteopathic medicine, orthopedic surgery, dentistry, nursing, physician assistant, physical therapy and veterinary science.

Train as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with the Madison County Ambulance Corps, the Madison Fire Department Ambulance Corps, or the Hamilton Fire Department.

Summer Funding 

°Ä²Ê¿ª½± and its generous alumni and parent donors offer grants to support the living costs and supplemental expenses of students who pursue unpaid and underpaid summer experiences.

John A. Golden ’66 Endowed Fellowship
Funding is available for highly qualified students interested in pursuing a career in human medicine through a summer internship or research position.

One of °Ä²Ê¿ª½±â€™s 10 professional networks, the health and wellness network connects alumni from related fields and provides dynamic career networking opportunities long after graduation. With regular get togethers across the country, the network also works to foster internship opportunities for current students, and to provide onramps for future employment.

Alumni and other health care practitioners travel to campus to share their experiences about solo and group medical practices and working for hospitals or health maintenance organizations. The event exposes students to all facets of a career in health care.

Spend a Semester at the Bethesda Biomedical Research study group

A unique experience for °Ä²Ê¿ª½± students studying the biomedical sciences.

Semester-long Research Immersion

Students on the Bethesda Biomedical Research study group spend an entire semester, roughly 30 hours per week, conducting research in some of the world's most dynamic laboratories.

A Faculty-led Experience

Students on the program receive instruction and advising from a full-time °Ä²Ê¿ª½± faculty member embedded in the program.
