University Faculty

The Longyear Museum of Anthropology is dedicated to developing exhibitions that fulfill curricular needs for diverse academic departments and programs. Faculty may arrange class visits to current exhibitions, which can include tours, discussions, and activities led by museum staff.

Faculty are encouraged to incorporate museum objects into their teaching. This may include class visits to view selections from the collection relating to specific regions or themes (ex: Yoruba religious traditions, commodification of culture, comparative food production and consumption). Faculty may also arrange to have assignments based off of museum objects (ex: looking exercises, in-depth research projects, mini-exhibitions), for which museum staff can assist students with access to the collection. Courses may also be involved in the planning, design, and interpretation for gallery exhibitions.

Please contact Rebecca Mendelsohn, Curator, to explore possibilities for teaching with exhibitions and collections in your course.
